DISC Network Appliance

Network Appliances (NA) simplify the connectivity of your DISC Series library, enabling it to be easily connected and managed via standard networks.
It virtualizes the DISC library into one or more network shares or mount points each being accessible via the network by any application. In fact multiple applications and users can share the archive as a single repository or separate repositories dedicated to their individual use.

A Network Appliance combines the DISC Series library with the storage management system to create Network Attached Storage (NAS) Appliance. This can be deployed like other NAS devices within an organisation providing an easy to use long term archive repository.

By having a DISC NA as part of the storage infrastructure it allows the transparent archiving of valuable records, fixed content or aging information into the corporations archive. This allows a structured approach to the management of data and its lifecycle.

There are a number of key benefits of archiving this data including:

  • Free up space on your expensive primary RAID system
    • Removing the need to upgrade the capacity
    • Performance is improved as servers are unclogged
  • Shortens the backup window
    • Archive contains unchanging data hence only needs backup once
  • Reduces energy consumption
    • Optical media consumes zero power consumption when idle hence is a true Green technology
  • Corruption proof
    • As Write Once (WORM) media is used the data can’t be destroyed.
  • Low cost long term storage of digital data
    • Media is certified for 50 years, hence data migrations are significantly reduced
